"Always study something you can eat"
I am a marine biologist, educator, and writer with a focus on environmental science and conservation, especially in the Chesapeake and DelMarVa regions. I am a retired Professor of Marine Science at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore, where I conducted research on the ecology and reproductive biology of invertebrates (primarily crabs), and impacts of fishing on fish and invertebrate populations and their habitats. I am also an avid scuba diver and underwater photographer, and previously supervised the UMES Scientific Diving Program.
