Walking on the beach one day, I sat down to watch the waves. Suddenly, a small cloud of sand erupted from a hole in the beach. I turned to see a pair of dark eyes on stalks looking back at me. We stared at each other for a minute before the eyes, attached to a ghost crab, disappeared back down the hole. I waited for it to reappear, but aware of my existence now, the crab decided to remain out of sight. As I watched ....

Horseshoe crabs are caught for use as bait and to produce LAL, an important and valuable medical product. But their eggs are extremely important foods for migrating birds. Crab harvest is tightly regulated, leading to the question: What is their most valuable use? Bait, Medicine, or bird food?
